Effective July 2025, all facilities with an install date after July 2025 will utilize the Financial Class Code Convention detailed in the previous section. This section details the Legacy Financial Class Code Convention that was the previously recommended standard for installs prior to July 2025. Please reach out to a TruBridge Support Representative with any questions.
Each character in the Financial Class Code is used to identify the type of claim more accurately.
First Character
The first position is used to identify the insurance carrier. If this is the only character in the code, it is an Inpatient claim.

Second Character
The second character of a Financial Class Code identifies the Stay Type or Service the patient is receiving such as an Outpatient or a service with a physician component. Standard descriptions should be used when setting up Financial Class Codes in the Insurance Companies Table to ensure all options are displayed when searching.

Third Character
The third character of a Financial Class Code may be used in two ways. It may identify a specific group of Outpatients, or it may be used in combination with the second character position to identify a different type of claim.

Other Examples
Inpatient claims may have an alpha or numeric character in the second position of the Financial Class Code. If it is an alpha character, it must be something other than "B", "C", "H", "S", or "P" as those are reserved for the TruBridge defined second characters detailed above.
Other Examples - Inpatient Financial Class Codes
Outpatient claims may also have an alpha or numeric character in the third position of the Financial Class Code to ensure there are enough options for unique Financial Class Codes for all Insurance Companies.
Other Examples - Outpatient Financial Class Codes
†Commercial
Financial Class Codes needing to begin with "C" do not always allow for the segmentation of all commercial insurance carriers due to the volume of available commercial insurances. Additional letters may be used to designate commercial payors and all for further segmentation. The only letters which may not be used for commercial insurances are the Financial Class Codes in which TruBridge has already defined in the above sections.
